sailing and diving around the world
Arrived in Venice, yesterday, at 10pm. Took the 'Blue Line' water bus to San Marco Square. I was so excited about being here I didn't bother with my hotel room and went straight into a "night crawl." Glad I did because it started to rain towards the end of it, and rained a good part of today. A little disappointed that I won't be here long enough to really get to know the city, but I sure learned a bit about how to get around. It looks like a maze to us, but for people who are born and raised here, or for most people who've been here for a few years, it's no so hard. Unlike a lot of other cities 'on the water,' there isn't a lot of canal-side walking. The buildings are right up beside the water, so, for the few spots where there actually is 'canalside' walking, you just have to figure out how to get to them. Around the Rialto Bridge, for example, there are some cafes/restaurants right beside the canal.
The 'waterbus' system is surprisingly easy to use. No biggie there. But there is a lot of walking because there aren't any cars on the island.
Wifi isn't great here, so this is the only video for now. Lots more to come, and lots from the 'nightcrawl' I did here, last night. I've got an apartment in Budapest for a few days, flying there tomorrow, so hopefully the wifi is strong enough there. Still have to upload all of the videos from Portugal and Rome.
