sailing and diving around the world
Hi. At the time of this writing, we are in Chagauramas, Trinidad. We are, at the moment, preparing the boat for a haul-out, which means we'll have a huge, wheeled crane lift the boat, a 42' Baltic, racer/cruiser, out of the water, and put it on braces. We're working on a 'to do' list, which mostly consists of small jobs like re-wiring running lights, removing old caulking from teak decks so we can re-groove the wood and re-calk, going up the mast to run a new halyard, servicing winches, etc. Once the boat is on the hard, we'll have the bottom power-washed and prepped for new coats of anti-fouling paint. We might have to do some prop work as well, but we've got our fingers crossed and we're hoping that the vibration we've been feeling isn't anything serious. We hope to be back in the water, and ready to leave Trinidad, in a couple of weeks.
What happens once we're back in the water? Well, that's where the fun starts, which leads me to the purpose of this blog. Obviously, what I want to do is approach this as if the people reading this don't have a clue about the cruising life. I'd be thrilled if people could simply be entertained, and use this site as a way to escape the tedium of city life, by connecting to us and 'living the life,' vicariously through us. From Trinidad, we'll head to Bonaire, then Curacao, then over to Cartagena, Colombia. Then onward to the San Blas Islands, through the Panama Canal, and out into the Pacific, heading toward French Polynesia.
My hope, also, is to create a site full of useful information to those who are thinking about buying a boat and cruising, and to those who are already on the water. I will also be posting as much of my past crewing experience as I can remember, with the hope that the information will be useful to those of you who are thinking about crewing, for the purposes of becoming a Captain, or even just for the fun of it.
We also have an air compressor, on board, so we'll be doing a lot of diving, and uploading dive videos. We'll be diving in every new country we visit. If you want to come to the boat for a visit, to experience the life yourself, drop me a line at email@example.com
Vamanos. The world awaits.
