Curacao is really an amazing place! We took the bus this morning, to Willemstad, to clear in with Customs and Immigration. We're anchored in the NW section of the lagoon, here in Spanish Waters, so it was a 3 minute dinghy ride over to the dinghy dock at Norman's Bar. From there, we walked a couple of minutes, past The Pier Restaurant, and The Pirate's Nest Bar, to the bus loop. The bus you take is the 6A Caracasbai, and it transports you the 25 minutes to Willemstad. It's a really neat bus ride, giving you a variety of perspectives of Curacao. The bus shows up once every hour, so don't miss the bus. In fact, the drivers are obviously sensitive to the fact that some people have a long wait, which is why our driver turned the bus around to go back to pick someone up that he didn't notice as he passed by the first time. Once downtown, in Punda, it becomes immediately clear that this is a place that needs exploring. It's truly amazing. In some areas, it really feels like you're in Holland. Sometimes, the only giveaway are the brightly-colored buildings. Anyway, I'm definitely going back to explore, with a fully charged camera.
From where the bus lets you off, it's about a ten-minute walk to the Customs Office. Out of all of the countries' Customs offices I've been to, this one was one of the most pleasant. Truly. They were friendly and efficient.
The walk to the Immigration office is a little longer. From the Customs Office, walk back to the swing bridge and cross to the Otrobanda (the other side). Once on the other side of the bridge, turn right and walk to the little booth. The person there takes your passports and give them back to you with a stamped piece of paper that makes your visit to the 'complex' official. From there, walk to the end of the red building and turn left. Now, you simply walk, and keep walking, til you come to the little green building that houses the Immigration office. Your walk will take you under the bridge. That's it. The bus you came in with is the same bus that will take you back to Spanish Waters.
I'll be back soon with a bunch of pics, after exploring Willemstad for a few days.
