sailing and diving around the world
Took the trail to Great Falls, on the Virginia Side. It was a perfect day for it and we had a blast. We started in D.C., and then crossed Key Bridge to get to the Virginia side of the Potomac.
The last time I was on the Chesapeake I wanted to stop in to the famous Tangier Island, but the timing wasn't right. This time I was able to stop at the island for an overnight stay at Parks Marina. It's true, there is no alcohol on the island! :) There wasn't any cell phone service or wifi, either. Getting into the slips can be tricky. It was kind of hard to understand what Mr. Parks was saying on the VHF radio, but we finally understood that we were to look for slip 18, and he would be waiting there for us. Mr. Parks is 85 years old. There will probably be a tidal stream when you get there, so be prepared. We had to put the bow of the boat against one of the pilings and spring into the slip. It took a couple of tries, but we made it. It's really hard to get on and off the boat, as you can see in the video. Unfortunately, we were only there overnight, so we didn't really get a feel for the place, and we weren't able to chat with anyone.
