So, we've got a few more days of free study time. Alex had a couple of people coming to do the Competent Crew course, and he invited us to join in, to assist, and of course to have the extra time to practice. Luca and his dad, Luke, were learning some of the maneuvers that we do so we were able to practice and review. It was a great two days, and Luke and Luca are now CC certified. It was quite amazing to watch Luca, at ten years of age, going through the drills.
So, the training week is finally over. What an incredible experience. We did around 170 nautical miles, sailing all the way up to St. Vincent. It was a life-changing experience. We did a lot of man-overboard drills, picking up buoys and anchoring, under sail. In fact, we didn't use the engine at all. This was a completely different experience for me because we were tacking and gybing in between the islands, where we had to maneuver around hazards, in very narrow channels. I performed maneuvers that I wouldn't have even considered before. Alex, the instructor, and principal of Bluewater Sailing opened up a whole new world of navigating to all of us YM candidates.
