sailing and diving around the world
I'm doing the Yachtmaster, Coastal, prep-week and practical exam, at Ondeck Sailing School, with Peter Anthony, and his team, in January. You can reach Peter at firstname.lastname@example.org. Peter put me in touch with Ted Miley, the Principal of 'Ocean Training Online,' for the purposes of doing the Yachtamster theory, online. Ted is certified by the Royal Yachting Association to provide RYA course material. Really handy. I can do the theory, and exams, here in Toronto, and then simply show up in Antigua for the practical. Robert's your father's brother :) You can reach Ted at email@example.com. Ted took me through the steps to order the courses that I needed, namely, the RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster Theory Course, and the VHF/SRC Radio Course. It's very easy to navigate Ted's website, and, after paying for the courses, I had the material a couple of days later, sent from the UK. This course covers the requirements for both, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore, so I will have dual theory qualifications. Be aware, however, that the Coastal and Offshore, practicals, are as different as night and day, in terms of level of difficulty.
The 'unboxing' video is below. Ocean Training Online (oceantraining.com) is the place to go when you want to do Yachtmaster theory courses online, guys. Any time I needed to communicate with Ted, or any of associates, they got back to me immediately. You can easily see that the folks at Ocean Training Online are proud of the study material they've put together. In fact, in one of his emails, Ted told me that I "wouldn't be disappointed," with the study modules, and when I unboxed the course material, I immediately saw that he was right. The books are chock full of clearly expressed lessons, information, and illustrations.
Dan Nicholson contacted me right after I made the purchases through Ted, and introduced himself as my tutor, and welcomed me to the course. Dan is my go-to guy, but, hopefully I won't have to bother him too much :) Dan can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Anyway, going to get started. Onward, brave warrior! :) Actually, I'm feeling really confident about going into the Yachtmaster studies, partly because of the support that I have from Ted, Dan, and Paul Harrison, over at Seavoice Training (VHF Radio Course), but also because a lot of this is simply review for me, as I've acquired ASA levels 101 through 105, wrote and passed the USCG, OUPV exams, and completed the STCW'95 course. There is a lot that I'm not familiar with, however, so I'm anxious to get going with the course material. I'll keep you guys posted. As you know, I want to bring you guys along with me, every step of the way, to give you a birds-eye view of the process of acquiring the Yachtmaster, Coastal, certification.
