sailing and diving around the world
After we delivered the yacht to Guernsey, in the Channel Islands, I flew to Bristol, picked up a rental car, and bombed around the country, and finally arrived in Lowestoft. This really was the highlight of the trip, because I finally was able to visit with my Uncle Mick & Auntie Jen. I hadn't seen my Uncle Mick since I was around 8 years old. My whole life I've had this memory of the coolest Uncle in the world, but he lived on the other side of the ocean. I had a delightful overnight stay with them in their beautiful home in Lowestoft. They designed their home and had it built from scratch. I had fun talking to Uncle Mick, talking about the old day, and finding out all kinds of things about the family that I didn't know. I spent a lot of time admiring his beautiful garden, and I wish I had a better memory because he told me all the names of all of the flowers, a lot of which I took as pics and posted below. Auntie Jen makes a fabulous orange marmalade, which I just finished this morning :( and Uncle Mick makes the best blackcurrant jam (from the blackcurrant bushes in the photo), and I'm trying to make that last as long as possible! :) I wanted to stay longer, but looking at my Uncle Mick was like looking at my late Father. It took my by surprise and made it overwhelmingly emotional for me. I wasn't able to see my cousin Alexia, because she had moved from Lowestoft, to London, by the time I arrived, but I did have some fun surprising my cousin Andrew, in his hair salon.
So, this was the final destination for the last yacht delivery. Took the yacht from Grenada, 20 days to cross the Atlantic and arrive in the Azores. Another 8 days from the Azores to Guernsey. It was a thrill to visit the Channel Islands. I could have spent more time there, but the mainland was calling, and I was anxious to begin my road trip. I've posted a bunch of random photos. Disappointed that I didn't record more videos, and only have the one of us in the taxi, on the way to the airport.
