sailing and diving around the world
I found this amazing video that someone had posted on the internet. It was particularly fascinating to me because a friend of mine was planning to go there this winter, specifically to see this spectacular light show.
We had some rain the other day, which is always a welcome break from the heat and humidity here at Chesapeake Harbor Marina. Still isn't much to do, as we wait to switch our gear to the other boat and getting heading south again.
As we usually do, as we travel and stop in at these ports, we're meeting lots of lovely people. The latest couple I met, Sharon and Alex, had to leave the day after we met. They were heading the same we way we came down. I was delighted to receive an email from Sharon, saying they arrived in Delaware City Marina. They've got a great trip ahead of them, as they head toward Michigan.
I met someone else, just after Sharon and Alex left, and her name is Elizabeth. I met her on the dock one day, and we got to talking. She's a charming lady, really smart, and loves the water as much as I do. She kindly offered to drive me over to 'Mikes,' a popular restaurant know for it's great crabs. As our meeting time approached, it was still raining, and she offered to walk over to the boat to get me, as I didn't have an umbrella. Well, that was about the sweetest, most charming thing I'd ever heard of. When she texted me to tell me she was on her way, I went out to wait for her to video her walking over with her umbrella. It felt like a scene right out of a classic movie. Anyway, we went to the crab house and feasted on crabs. For those of you that have never eaten in a restaurant like this, what they do is they put a sheet of brown paper down on the table before they bring out the food. Then each person is given a wooden mallet, and it's pretty much a sort of medieval-style bashing of the crabs, to get all the sweet meat out. It was a lot of fun, and I didn't even get any on my clothes. There are a few more famous restaurants I want to try, and we'll be here for another month or so, it seems, so there's lots of time.
