sailing and diving around the world
We left Chesapeake Harbor Marina at around noon and arrived in Solomons around 7pm. It was a great run. Smooth seas and sunny skies. Namaste performed flawlessly. We tied up at one of the two floating docks, which is just about between Washburn Boatyard and the Calvert Marina office. The ladies in the office are extremely friendly and helpful. There is a loaner car, for transients, which I've already used a couple of times. It's an older model Mercedes, but it looks great :) But one of the windows doesn't go down and there is no AC. Hey, how can you complain when they're offering a car? Right? There isn't anything around within reasonable walking distance, so the car really comes in handy. There is a 1 hour time limit, but the car has been there every time I've needed it, because there aren't many transients here right now. For those of you that don't mind a long walk, however, you can get to the main grocery store, on foot. I did do the hour and a half walk, however, the other night, from the southern extremity of the island, where Charles Street Brasserie is located. We had dinner there one night and decided to walk back. Marina facilities, showers, laundry, etc, are all very close. For laundry, simply walk over to the marina office and ask for the key. They ask that you lock the door when you're not in the laundry room. I wanted to get pictures of everyone in the office, but kept showing up when everyone was away doing other things. I did manage to find Donna, so I was able to grace my website with her photo. She's one heck of a lovely person.
There are at least six restaurants you can get to, by dingy. We usually go to Anglers, because it is right across from the marina, and the food is consistently great. We went over last night, in fact, and played a game of trivia with a bunch of other people. Jack is the trivial pursuit host, and there were ten rounds from the various categories. Dan and I hung in at third place for a while, but then crashed to last place after the music category. It was all about modern pop music and I hadn't even heard of the musicians before, let alone the songs. I thought we would clean up because Dan is really freakin' knowledgeable, and he's been on the planet for 68 years. It was a valiant attempt.
Dan is going to be here in Calvert Marina for more than a month, so I'm taking off tomorrow, to do another short run on a different boat, and I'll be back when Dan is ready to get going again.
